NDMA issues guidelines to protect gig and platform workers from extreme heat and unsafe working conditions.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory requiring employers and platform aggregators to protect gig and platform workers from heatwaves. Key measures include halting work during 11 a.m.–4 p.m. in IMD alerts, mandatory cooling breaks, safety kits (UV clothing, sunscreen, ORS), accessible toilets, cooling shelters, and a “Heat Emergency” app feature. Special provisions protect women and disabled workers, including summer leave and safe toilets. Compliance is mandatory for all platforms.
